ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Lauren.

I’m queer and use she/her pronouns. After growing up in the suburbs and then living in the city of Detroit/Waawiyatanong, Michigan for nearly 20 years, I now dwell in the woods on native Mississauga and Wyandot land two hours north of the city in a place I call Paradise. As an artist with a lifelong passion for creativity, I've traversed various paths within the art world. After obtaining a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and Art History, I immersed myself in arts administration for over 15 years, contributing to the vibrancy of art museums and nurturing the professional growth of fellow artists. However, a few years ago, I felt the pull to rekindle my own artistic flame, leading me on a journey of rediscovery where I found a profound connection with clay.

In my ceramic practice, I predominantly craft functional objects that marry practicality with artistic expression. Inspired by my personal style characterized by vibrant hues and dynamic black + white patterns, each piece I create is a testament to individuality and love. Embracing the beauty of imperfection inherent in handmade art, every item bears the mark of a unique creation, infused with a sense of warmth and authenticity.

Driven by a deep-seated affinity for aesthetics and a reverence for the beauty found in everyday life, my exploration of ceramics is rooted in the intersection of practical function and artistic allure. I find solace and joy in surrounding myself with objects that not only serve a purpose but also elevate the visual landscape of my home—the sanctuary where I feel most at peace. Drawing inspiration from the sensory delights of my surroundings, I imbue my work with awe and curiosity, transforming ordinary items into sources of delight and fascination. Whether it's a mug for morning coffee or a vase for fresh blooms, every piece is crafted with the intention of enriching daily rituals and enhancing the aesthetic experience of everyday living with moments of artistic resonance.

Ultimately, I hope that my ceramic art inspires viewers with both its beauty and playfulness, inviting them to find joy in the marriage of form and function. May each encounter with my creations spark a sense of wonder and delight, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the artistry inherent in the everyday objects that surround us.
